AIMA Hong Kong Fund Manager Briefing: Carried Interest Regime – Practical Application

Hong Kong In-person Tax

AIMA invites you to this fund manager briefing on Tuesday 6 October 2026.

Hong Kong’s new carried interest and performance fee tax exemption regime, focusing on the practical opportunities it presents for fund managers, investment professionals, and their businesses.

With the new regime applying from 1 April 2025, we are now seeing the first exemption claims being made in respect of FY2025. Drawing on our experience in advising managers on these claims and our ongoing engagement with the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (IRD), this briefing will move beyond the technical rules to focus on how the exemption works in practice, the opportunities for managers and the key considerations in making a successful claim.

During the session, we will cover:

  • Hong Kong's new carried interest and performance fee exemption: An update on the new rules, including the opportunities for fund managers, investment advisors, portfolio managers and other eligible employees.
  • Practical experience from FY2025 claims: How exemption claims are progressing, the key issues arising in practice and the responses and feedback received from the IRD.
  • Structuring and implementation: Practical considerations for existing and new performance fee and carried interest arrangements, including documentation, eligibility requirements and compliance.
  • Singapore developments: An update on Singapore's recent announcements regarding its proposed tax exemption regime for profit-related returns, including a comparison with Hong Kong and the potential implications for regional fund management businesses.
  • Accounting and tax implications: Key accounting and tax provision considerations for management companies arising from the new exemption.

The session will provide an opportunity for an interactive discussion on the practical application of the new rules, emerging market practices and how managers can take advantage of the opportunities available under the regime.
