IMF publishes report on private equity and life insurers

Published: 19 January 2024

On December 19, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) published their Global financial Stability Note report studying the growing trend of private equity and private debt in the life insurance industry. The report examines how private equity and debt investments in insurance have becoming an increasingly integral part of their strategic growth. The note reviews the growth of private equity investments by considering acquisition incentives and strategies, the resulting changes to asset allocation, and potential policy implications. Notably, the report highlights a lack of transparency in certain areas of insurance reporting, valuation, and liquidity monitoring.
