AIMA Hong Kong Seminar: The Current State of Economic Substance Requirements in the Cayman Islands

AIMA and Maples Group invite you to join our lunch seminar in Hong Kong on Thursday 18 April 2019.  
Since the beginning of this year, a new legislation came into effect in the Cayman Islands, with requirements to have demonstrable economic substance in Cayman.

During the session, the speakers will  discuss the following:       

  • Why has the Cayman Islands introduced this legislation?
  • What problems is the new legislation supposed to solve?
  • Outline of each "relevant entity" and each "relevant activity"
  • How does this new legislation impact  Cayman-registered funds (private equity funds, hedge funds, SLPs, co-investment vehicles, single-investor funds)?
  • Recommended solutions to create substance in the Cayman Islands (if necessary)

Speakers Biography:
 

Ann Ng, Partner, Maples Group
Ann previously worked for Linklaters in London and Hong Kong, and for Freehills in Australia.  She has been recognised as one of the top 10 offshore lawyers in Asia in the Offshore Client Choice List by Asian Legal Business for three consecutive years since the awards debut in 2016.  She has also been awarded Best in Offshore at the Asia Women in Business Law Awards for a number of years and has been recommended as a leading funds lawyer in The Legal 500, Chambers and Partners Asia Pacific, Chambers Global and IFLR1000.  Ann regularly speaks at industry conferences and seminars as an offshore expert.  She is fluent in Cantonese.

 

Craig Luton, Associate, Maples Group

Craig joined the Maples Group's legal services division in 2016.  He gained significant onshore experience as a senior associate in the M&A and corporate team of the London office of a major US firm, where he worked on cross-border M&A deals, private equity transactions, joint ventures, venture capital investments and fundraisings and other transactions on AIM.
