AIMA Hong Kong FMB: Investing Crypto and related assets? Key things that fund managers need to know
AIMA invites you to join our breakfast briefing on Tuesday, 21 September 2021.
As the cryptocurrency ecosystem evolves and institutional interest in this area increases, traditional and alternative fund managers are exploring ways in which to invest into this new asset class. Wealth management advisors are also increasingly receiving enquiries in relation to cryptocurrencies from their core clients, and this will also undoubtedly result in requests to fund managers. According to the 3rd Annual Global Crypto Hedge Fund Report 2021, total assets under management (AuM) of crypto hedge funds globally increased from US$2 billion in 2019 to nearly US$3.8 billion in 2020 and around a fifth of traditional hedge funds are already investing in digital assets.
Despite the increasing interest in the cryptocurrency space, some fund managers and boards of directors of funds remain cautious due to regulatory uncertainty, trading risk, and many other factors. With the institutionalisation of the asset class gaining traction, fund managers must be well equipped to navigate through the ever-evolving landscape that cryptocurrencies bring. In this event, we will explore the implications that hedge fund managers need to consider and be prepared for when investing into crypto and crypto-related products.
