AIMA China Live 2020
We would like to invite you to join us on our upcoming 2-day AIMA China Live 2020, an event held on 7th and 8th December 2020 to explore the exciting opportunities and relevant challenges in China.
With the China government following their plan to further open up access to the China market, we are inundated with an influx of interest towards China. Five top global asset managers have submitted applications already for mutual fund licenses along with dozens of global banks making substantial steps in launching JV securities firms to capture China business opportunities.
AIMA China is leveraging this new environment with the uncertainty of global trade relationships and healthcare issues, looking into sharing updates and have discussions on all matters related to China.
We can expect several industry experts from well-known global financial institutions to walk us through current hot topics from QFII New Rules and sound approaches to the latest regulatory matters. All of that will help provide our attendees with an idea of how to rebalance resources towards China especially those that demonstrate strong investment opportunities.

Michael joined AIMA in 2016 as Managing Director and Co-Head of APAC and brings a wealth of experience in Asian financial markets and has been located in Hong Kong for close to 18 years. He has held senior positions on the sell side both in New York and Hong Kong. He has held leadership positions at BNP Paribas, Bear Sterns, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and most recently at HSBC where he managed the banks senior relationships with the Asset management sector with in the Financial Institutional Group. Michael is responsible for the management of all our activities across Asia including our National groups, membership staff, events communications and finances. Together with Kher Sheng Lee (Co-Head of APAC) operate as our senior ambassadors for AIMA in APAC and the Industry we represent.

Frank Wu joins AIMA in November 2015 as China General Manager, Chief Representative and Director. Previously, he spent three years at Beijing Gao Hua Securities, a well-known onshore security firm demonstrating an JV relationship with Goldman Sachs Group which embrace uniform global research, product and trading platform with other Goldman business entity worldwide. He worked as Executive Director, Head of Goldman Sachs China onshore hedge fund business platform and an onshore facilitator for Goldman’s Global Prime Broking team as well regarding QDLP and other areas global hedge fund managers explored relevant expansion into. Frank also assisted onshore hedge fund clients with product origination suggestion, capital introduction through his wide network in bank channels, trust companies and third-party wealth management firms. Meanwhile, he also assisted global asset managers, onshore and offshore hedge fund managers, key insurance asset managers in the area of sales & trading and research support.
Prior to Gao Hua Securities, he served as Vice President of Business Department at Fortis Haitong Investment Management Co., Ltd., one of first batch of joint venture mutual fund companies with current foreign stake holder being as BNP Paribas Investment from 2005 to 2010, to manage distributional channels and provide asset allocation and investment solution plans to key institutional clients in China, such as insurance managers, finance corporations etc. Frank started his career as senior research analyst in Guoyuan Trust in 1998 and spent seven years from the role of portfolio manager to research head in proprietary trading department of Guoyuan Trust while he demonstrated solid skills and insights in asset allocation, portfolio management in areas of A share, B share, Hong Kong stock market. Frank holds a MBA degree of University of Science and Technology of China.

Melody Yang is Simmons & Simmons partner based in Beijing. 尹叙 / Yin Xu, Partner, Harneys
Yin Xu is a partner in our Investment Funds and Corporate practice groups where he specialises in advising on the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands legal aspects of cross-border transactions. Yin has extensive experience advising a multitude of sponsors and asset managers on the formation of all types of private equity and hedge funds, alternative investment vehicles and downstream investments, as well as on restructuring and ongoing operational matters. In addition, he regularly advises on the offshore aspects of a wide range of corporate transactions including joint ventures, initial public offerings, corporate restructurings, and mergers and acquisitions of both private and public companies. He also has considerable experience in debt and equity financing.
Prior to joining Harneys in 2019, Yin practised for eight years with another offshore firm corporate and funds team in Hong Kong, prior to which he worked for several years with the corporate team in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Hong Kong and London offices. Yin’s broad offshore and top-tier international experience combined with his fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and English language skills enable him to service a broad range of clients in the Asia region, including leading international law firms and fund formation teams as well as major banks and corporates

Jeffrey is Head of Overseas Institutional Clients Department of Guotai Junan Securities. Before joining Guotai Junan, Mr Guo was with HSBC in London. Currently, Mr GUO is a member of the Standing Committee of the Youth Federation of the People’s Bank of China ("PBOC"). He graduated from London Business School. Mr GUO’s articles were published in China Finance, China Bond. He translated "Bonds without Borders” (China Financial Publishing House) in 2015.

Ben Teo is Head of Global Market Financing at UBS Securities, China and Chairman of UBS Futures, China. Ben joined UBS in 2004 in Hong Kong. Ben has been with UBSS since 2016 as an Equities Senior Business manager and was previously the Deputy General Manager and business manager for UBS Futures from 2014. Prior to that, Ben held several roles in UBS including as a GFS risk manager in Hong Kong and within Market Risk. Ben holds a MSc in Mathematical Finance from University of Toronto, and BSc in Actuarial Science from University of Western Ontario.

林思敏 / Michelle S Lim, Managing Director, Head of China Prime Finance Sales & Business Development, Head of Capital Services Asia, Credit Suisse Ms. Michelle Lim is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Asia Pacific Division, based in Hong Kong. She leads the Prime Finance Sales team focused on the China market, and is also responsible for the regional Asia capital services team. Prior to joining Credit Suisse in January 2020, she spent 11 years at Deutsche Bank where she was co-running the Asia Prime Finance Sales team, as well as the regional capital introduction team. Michelle Lim graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Law and she is a qualified yoga instructor.

Helen has over 14 years’ experiences in securities services and possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge in China custody business. Helen joined HSBC in 2006 and has exposure in both Client Services and Operation. In her current role, Helen leads the team to handle end-to-end onboarding as well as provide support to clients’ investment in China’s securities market, as their focal point of contact onshore. Jason is Simmons & Simmons partner based in Singapore. Mr. Lee is Managing Director, Co-Head of APAC and Deputy Global Head of Government Affairs with AIMA. In his role, he works closely together with Michael Bugel (his Co-Head of APAC) to shape and deliver AIMA’s strategy for the APAC region. In addition, he leads AIMA’s policy and regulatory initiatives in the region and also operates as a senior ambassador for AIMA and the industry it represents. He is commended by the Financial Times in the FT Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers 2015 (only in-house counsel flying solo to be recognised and win a place in the rankings) where the FT noted he "has played an important role developing asset management standards in Hong Kong". He is named to the Corporate Counsel 100: Asia Pacific 2014 by the global legal rankings publication Legal 500 which identifies "an array of the most influential and innovative in-house lawyers in Asia". Mr. Lee received his LL.B (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore law school, and is admitted to practise law in Singapore (Advocate & Solicitor), Hong Kong (Solicitor) and England & Wales (Solicitor-Advocate with full rights of audience in all criminal and civil proceedings in the higher courts). While at Macquarie, Eric was responsible for research and developing quantitative strategies focusing on the Asia markets. Before returning to Asia in 2008, Eric worked at Citigroup as a Data Analyst in the investment research team and as an Assistant Trader at a proprietary trading firm in New York. Eric has over 15 years of investment industry experience and holds a BSc from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MBA from Baruch College and a Master of Finance from INSEAD.
